Smart film vs laminated smart glass
Both give you the same magic — glass that switches from frosted to clear — but they suit different situations. Here's how to choose.
Self-adhesive smart film
Film is the PDLC layer with a peel-and-stick backing, applied directly onto glass you already have.
- ✅ Most affordable — from ₹2,700/sq ft
- ✅ No demolition — keep your existing glass and framing
- ✅ Fast — often installed in a few hours
- ⚠️ Best for dry, interior surfaces; edges aren't fully sealed
Choose film if: you're renovating, renting, or want a quick, budget-friendly upgrade to existing partitions or windows.
Laminated smart glass
Here the PDLC film is permanently fused between two toughened glass panes at the factory, creating a single sealed panel.
- ✅ Sealed & moisture-proof — safe for bathrooms and demanding spaces
- ✅ Toughened safety glass on both faces
- ✅ Cleanest look — no visible film edge
- ⚠️ Costs more (from ₹6,500/sq ft) and means new panels
Choose laminated if: you're building new, want the most durable and premium finish, or need it in a wet or high-traffic area.
